About the Church
The Church of St Aloysius in Ostrēni (Ustroņi) stands in the village of Ustroņi, in the Sokolki civil parish, Rēzekne municipality, Latgale. The parish was officially established on 11 December 1935.
The wooden house of prayer was built in 1936 by the first parish priest, Broņislavs Valpitrs; during construction, services were held in a house donated by Juris Pušmucovs. It is a single-nave wooden church, about 18 metres long and 14 metres wide, with a sheet-metal roof. Inside there are three altars with statues of the Blessed Virgin Mary and St Theresa. Plans to build a larger masonry church were interrupted by war and occupation.
