About the Church
The Roman Catholic Church of St John the Baptist in Koknese stands in one of the most beautiful places in Vidzeme – the small town of Koknese, where the Pērse stream flows into the Dauguva. Nearby loom the ruins of the famous medieval Koknese Castle, a reminder of the region's rich history.
The church is dedicated to St John the Baptist – the forerunner of Christ and a symbol of the sacrament of baptism. The Catholic parish of Koknese belongs to the Archdiocese of Riga and unites the faithful of the town and the surrounding villages.
This small shrine is an important part of the local community's spiritual life, and together with the picturesque bank of the Dauguva and the historic castle park it forms the pleasant landscape of Koknese, which attracts a good many visitors each year.
