About the Church

St Joseph's Church in Riga (Rīgas Svētā Jāzepa katoļu baznīca) is a small Roman Catholic church in Riga, on the left bank of the Daugava, on Embūtes Street.

A wooden building, which served various purposes during the 20th century, previously stood on the site of the present church. In 1937 it was acquired by the Catholic parish and adapted for worship. The masonry church was built in 1986–1992.

It is a modest church, barely a dozen or so metres long. Its interior is adorned with three altar paintings created by the artist Māra Kravale.

Despite its small size, St Joseph's Church is a cosy place of prayer, bringing together the Catholic community of the surrounding Riga neighbourhoods.
