About the Church
The Church of St Anthony of Padua in Priekulė stands in the town of Priekulė, in Klaipėda district, and belongs to the Gargždai Deanery of the Diocese of Telšiai. It is a comparatively young Catholic church, raised in the first half of the 20th century.
Until 1936 the Catholic community of Priekulė used rented premises for services. In 1936 a building committee was formed and a plot of land was bought, and in 1937–1938, through the efforts of priest Nikodemas Petkus, the present masonry church was raised. It was consecrated on 3 July 1938.
The plastered masonry building is rectangular in plan, single-towered, with an apse. Three altars are set up inside. The churchyard is enclosed by a wooden fence with reinforced-concrete posts, and the parish also owns the rebuilt Stragnai chapel-mausoleum.
