About the Church
The Baleliai Chapel of St John Paul II is located in Baleliai, Taujėnai eldership, Ukmergė district. It belongs to the Traupis Parish of St Anne. The chapel was built in 2015 in a former boiler-house building of the settlement. Mass is celebrated here every Sunday.
Historical background: the chapel was originally set up in an apartment block that had belonged to the former Baleliai Soviet state farm. Local residents pooled their shares, bought these premises and donated them to the Traupis parish. Charitable donations from Germany were received during the renovation.
Some residents of the apartment block did not like Mass being held in their building, and demanded that the chapel be moved. This problem was solved by the chairman of the Baleliai community, Romas Pivoras, who donated the former boiler-house building to the church. The new chapel was blessed in 2015 by the Archbishop Metropolitan of Kaunas, Lionginas Virbalas. The chapel was given the name of St John Paul II.
