About the Church
The Greek Catholic Church of the Lord's Transfiguration in Riga (Rīgos Kunga Apskaidrošanās grieķu katoļu baznīca) is a Byzantine Rite Catholic community in Riga. Unlike Latin Rite parishes, it does not have a separate building of its own for worship.
The community gathers in the Old Town of Riga, in a side chapel of the Church of Our Lady of Sorrows, where the Eastern (Byzantine) liturgy is celebrated. The parish serves in particular Ukrainian-speaking faithful and fosters the Eastern Christian tradition within the life of the Catholic Church in Latvia.
Although this community is small, it is an important witness to the diversity of Riga's Catholics – a place where the heritage of the Eastern Rite lives on alongside the Latin tradition.
