About the Church
The Roman Catholic church of St Peter in Kurmene stands in the village of Kurmene, in the Bauska municipality, right on the border with Lithuania, on the grounds of a former manor park. The church belongs to the Diocese of Jelgava.
The present masonry church was built in 1870 on the site of an old wooden chapel by Count Petras Komarovskis; the shrine was named in honour of St Peter. It was originally a filial church of the Skaistkalne parish, and became an independent parish in 1919.
The Classicist building is built of brick and dolomite stone, and has two towers. In 2022 the church was added to the state list of protected cultural monuments as a monument of local architectural significance.
