About the Church

The Roman Catholic Church of St Ignatius of Loyola in Ozolaine is a shrine of the Diocese of Jelgava, standing in the village of Ozolaine, in the Bauska area.

The first services in this area were held as early as the 17th century, and the so-called "Ąžuolynas" (Ozolu) parish prayed in an old wooden church moved from Skaistkalne. The present stone church was begun in 1861 through the efforts of the Skaistkalne priest Mikuličius and the labour of parishioners, and was consecrated in 1864 in honour of St Ignatius of Loyola.

The church is built of split fieldstone, unplastered, with a single low, four-sided tower. Inside there are three altars. In 2015 the shrine was included in the list of monuments of local cultural significance.
