About the Church
The Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Bolderāja (Bolderājas Vissvētākās Jaunavas Marijas Debesīs uzņemšanas baznīca) is a Roman Catholic church in Riga's Bolderāja district, near the mouth of the Daugava, on Gobas Street.
Construction began in 1908 to a design by the architect Edgars Frīzendorfs. It is a building in the Eclecticism style, with a single nave and a four-storey tower rising on the western side; the nave and chancel are covered by a gabled roof. The church is built of yellow brick.
During the wars of the 20th century the church's tower and walls were damaged, but the building survived and is still protected as a cultural monument of local significance. Inside it has three altars, the main one dedicated to the mystery of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
