About the Church
The Roman Catholic church of St Francis in Viesīte stands in the town of Viesīte, in the Selonia region. It belongs to the Diocese of Jelgava.
Construction of the church began in 2013, and the shrine was blessed in 2016. It was named in honour of St Francis of Assisi, and also of Pope Francis. Until their own church was built, the Catholics of Viesīte gathered for services in the local Lutheran church.
The new church became the centre of the spiritual life of the Catholic community of Viesīte.
