About the Church

The Church of Our Lady, Mediatrix of All Graces, in Šešuolėliai is a special place, made not only for prayer but also for lovers of history and architecture. This distinctive Gothic Revival church stands in Antrieji Šešuolėliai, near the right bank of the Širvinta. The church adorns the landscape and invites travellers to stop and admire its architecture and feel its calm.

The first chapel at the Šešuolėliai manor was built before 1744. Although in 1782 it still lacked church furnishings, by 1828 it had acquired them and later became an active part of the parish. Over time, by 1866, the chapel had become a filial church, which meant its importance in the community had grown.

The present masonry church was built in 1901–1910, overseen by the technician Apolinaras Mikulskis. This was a major step forward, since the new church not only reflected the architectural trends of the time but also provided space for a wealth of religious rites. As early as 1924 a parish was established here, and the church became the centre of local religious life.

Architecturally, this church is a true gem. Its Gothic Revival style, marked by tall turrets, spires and detailed ornamentation, creates the impression of being transported to medieval times. The single-tower structure, the rectangular plan and the many turrets create a harmonious and imposing image. The entrance to the church is distinctive — a high flight of steps leads to the main doors, symbolising spiritual ascent and preparation for meeting God.

The church celebrates several important feast days that draw the faithful from various regions. 4 March marks the feast of St Casimir, 10 August the feast of St Lawrence, and on the last Sunday of May the titular feast of Our Lady, Mediatrix of All Graces, is held. These celebrations not only strengthen the faith but also bring together the local community and their guests for shared prayer and festivities.

The Church of Our Lady, Mediatrix of All Graces, in Šešuolėliai is more than just a religious building. It is a place where history, architecture and community come together into one harmonious whole, offering both spiritual calm and an experience of aesthetic beauty.
