About the Church
The Church of St Bridget in Grobiņa stands in the town of Grobiņa, near Liepāja, and is dedicated to St Bridget, patroness of Europe. It is a modern-style church, built in the early 21st century.
Construction of the church began in 2000 on a plot allocated by the municipality, and in 2002 the Bishop of Liepāja, Vilhelms Lapelis, consecrated it. The building's forms are symbolic — recalling Noah's Ark, which saved every living being, and also recalling the Swedes who arrived by ship and brought the Christian faith to this land.
Beside the church stands a tall wooden cross, and in the distinctively designed bell tower hang bells cast in Poland. Inside is kept a painting by the artist Ēriks Pudzēns. The church serves the Catholic community of Grobiņa and the surrounding area.
