About the Church
The Church of the Resurrection of Christ in Bārta stands in the village of Bārta in southern Courland, near the border with Lithuania. It is a young Catholic church, built in the early 21st century.
The Catholic community in Bārta came together during the national revival period; at first services were held in the community hall and in premises of the museum. In 2002 the Bishop of Liepāja, Vilhelms Lapelis, consecrated the new church, dedicating it to the Resurrection of Christ.
The building was designed by the architect Antra Siliņa and built of red brick; it is notable for its distinctive modern architectural forms. The church serves a small local Catholic community.
