About the Church
The Church of St Stanislaus in Barkava (Roman Catholic) stands in the village of Barkava, the Madona municipality, Latgale. It belongs to the Diocese of Rēzekne–Aglona.
An earlier wooden church was built here in 1793. The present masonry church was built in 1882 to a design by the engineer K. Tikhomirov, funded by Count S. Ziberg and the parishioners, and it was consecrated in 1896 by Bishop Albīns Simans.
It is a three-aisled, hall-type church with two pyramidal towers on the main facade, built of red brick and dressed stone; it displays eclectic features with Gothic motifs. The facades are adorned with buttresses, pilasters and round stained-glass windows.
