About the Church
The Church of St John the Baptist in Nagļi stands in the Nagļi civil parish, Rēzekne municipality. The first wooden Catholic church here was already active in the 18th century, served by the Bernardines of Viļāni; once the monastery was closed, pastoral care was taken over by secular priests.
The present church was built in 1862 from fieldstone masonry by the landowner Nābelis. It is a twin-towered, single-nave church typical of Latgale. It was originally a filial church of the Viļāni church, and now belongs to the Diocese of Rēzekne–Aglona. Inside there are three altars and an organ from 1873; the church is enclosed by a wooden fence set on stone posts, and the presbytery stands nearby.
