About the Church
The Church of Our Lady of Sorrows in Atašiene (Roman Catholic) stands in the village of Atašiene, in the Jēkabpils municipality, Latgale. It belongs to the Diocese of Rēzekne–Aglona.
The parish previously used a wooden church built in 1804. The present masonry church was built in 1931–1937 and consecrated in the autumn of 1937 by Bishop Jāzeps Rancāns.
It is a twin-towered church, built of brick and fieldstone, about 32 metres long and 16 metres wide. The main altar bears an image of Our Lady of Sorrows.
