About the Church

The Roman Catholic Church of the Immaculate Heart of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Cesvaine is a modern Catholic shrine in the small town of Cesvaine, in the Madona municipality, in eastern Vidzeme. It belongs to the Archdiocese of Riga.

The church was built in 1996–1997 on a small hill, at the junction of Madona and Veidenbaums streets. In 1997 it was consecrated by Archbishop Jānis Pujats, who dedicated the shrine to the Immaculate Heart of the Blessed Virgin Mary.

The small Catholic community of Cesvaine gathers in this shrine for communal prayer and Sunday Mass, celebrating feasts dedicated to Mary with particular solemnity.
