About the Church
The Church of St Andrew the Apostle in Endriejavas stands in the town of Endriejavas, by the Samogitian highway, in Klaipėda district. Although the present building is young, the parish's history goes back to the 18th century.
The first chapel here was built around 1780, when the founders Viktoras and Agnieška Jorūda donated land and funds. In 1861 a bell tower was raised, and in 1862 a bell cast in Moscow was the largest in the whole Diocese of Samogitia. The old church burned down during the bombing on 22 June 1941 – the first day of the war in Lithuania. In 1943 a temporary wooden church was hastily built from materials taken from military barracks.
The present masonry church was set up in 2012–2013 in a former cultural centre, to a design by the architect Irena Slavinskaitė-Prapuolenienė. Beside it rose a metal bell tower 15 metres high, to which the historic 1862 bell was moved. The tower is adorned with a steel cross and Vytis emblems.
