About the Church
The Catholic church in Kretingalė is a historic church in Kretingalė, in the Klaipėda district, shared today by the Catholic and Evangelical Lutheran communities. The Catholic parish has no separate house of prayer, so services are held in the Kretingalė Evangelical Lutheran church.
The first wooden chapel in Kretingalė was built in 1652, and construction of the present masonry church began in 1741; it is about 23.5 m long and 11.5 m wide. After storm damage in 1875 the tower was rebuilt. During the Soviet era it was turned into a warehouse; the church was restored and reconsecrated in 1996, and substantially renovated in 2020.
The Catholic parish belongs to the Palanga Deanery of the Diocese of Telšiai; it is served by a Franciscan priest from Kretinga.
