About the Church
The Church of St Stanislaus, Bishop, at Višakio Rūda rises in the village of Višakio Rūda, about 10 km north-west of Kazlų Rūda. It is one of the largest and most impressive wooden churches in Lithuania.
The first wooden church, a filial church of the Zapyškis parish, was built here in 1817. After the old one fell into decay, the present wooden church was erected in 1883 and was consecrated in 1885 by the auxiliary bishop Juozapas Holiakas. In 1910 the priest Feliksas Martišius established a branch of the "Žiburys" society, a library and a reading room. After 1915 Višakio Rūda became an independent parish.
The Neo-Baroque church is a three-aisled pseudo-basilica on a rectangular plan, with two towers with octagonal spires and a many-sided apse. It is the only wooden Neo-Baroque sacred building in Sūduva, and is listed in the Lithuanian Register of Cultural Property.
