About the Church
The Chapel of Divine Mercy in Jūrė stands in the small town of Jūrė, in Kazlų Rūda district municipality. It is a young church whose history reflects the community's long-held dream of having its own house of prayer.
Already in 1937 a plot had been set aside for a church in the eastern part of the town marketplace, but the Soviet occupation and the war cut short these plans. In 1970 the inhabitants planted a pine grove on the site of the future church to protect the plot from being built over. In 2000 an initiative group brought together by the historian Juozas Banionis and the teacher Ona Stankevičienė set to work.
In 2004 Bishop Rimantas Norvila gave permission for construction, in 2005 the foundations were blessed, and on 31 May 2008 the chapel was solemnly consecrated. The wooden church, with log walls, has one tower and a modest appearance. Its bell was cast in Poland, and the interior is adorned with furnishings donated by local benefactors.
