About the Church
The Roman Catholic Church of St Thérèse of the Child Jesus in Auce is a wooden shrine of the Diocese of Jelgava in the town of Auce, in the Dobele area.
The first services in Auce were held in private houses around 1930, and in 1936 a young priest, Leonas Kundziņšas, was sent here and set about founding the parish and building the church. The shrine was built and consecrated in 1938 in honour of St Thérèse of the Child Jesus.
The church is a wooden, towerless building; a cross wall divides it into two parts – one houses the church, the other living quarters and the sacristy. The churchyard is enclosed by a fence, on which stands a large mission cross.
