About the Church
The Roman Catholic Chapel of St Benedict in Brocēni is in the town of Brocēni, on Lake Ciecere, in Central Courland, in the Saldus area. The chapel, which belongs to the Liepāja Diocese, is dedicated to St Benedict, the father of monasticism in the West.
The Catholic community of Brocēni came together during the revival period: at first the faithful gathered in private homes, and in 1997 the community was officially registered and settled in adapted premises of the former town municipality building. Local craftsmen donated a wooden altar and other furnishings to the chapel. The modest church became a place of prayer and community life for the Catholics of Brocēni.
