About the Church
The Roman Catholic community of St Joseph in Silaiņi is a small Catholic community in the village of Silaiņi, in the Zaņa civil parish near Saldus, in Central Courland. The community belongs to the Liepāja Diocese and is placed under the patronage of St Joseph, the betrothed of the Blessed Virgin Mary and patron of workers.
Like many small Catholic communities in Courland, the faithful of Silaiņi have no large church of their own – services are held in adapted premises, served by priests coming from Saldus. Small but resilient, the community bears witness to the Catholic faith reborn in Latvia's villages after the Soviet era.
