About the Church
The Roman Catholic community of St Anne in Priekule is active in Priekule — a small town in Courland in south-western Latvia, near the border with Lithuania. This community, which belongs to the Diocese of Liepāja, has no separate church: services are held in a chapel set up in the Priekule hospital, dedicated to St Anne, the mother of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
Although few Catholics live here, the community keeps alive a living tradition of faith and prayer and cares for the sick. Entrusted to the patronage of St Anne, the community is a typical example of the revived Catholic life of Courland, in which, after the Soviet period, small groups of the faithful gathered once again around chapels served by clergy.
