About the Church
The Church of the Holy Trinity in Lēnas stands in the village of Lēnas, in the Nīkrāce civil parish, on the Venta river. It is a historic 18th-century church, protected as an architectural monument of national significance.
The masonry church was built in 1750 by the Bishop of Livonia (Piltene), Juozapas Puzina, on the site of an old wooden cemetery chapel. The church is also significant because, in its crypt beneath the chancel, the last two Bishops of Piltene are buried — J. Puzina himself and Aleksandras Lodzinskis.
The two-towered Baroque church, built of plastered brick masonry, is notable for its beautiful vaults, artistically valuable pews and an organ from the late 18th century. It recalls the rich history of Catholicism in Courland and continues to serve the local faithful.
