About the Church
The Church of St Agatha in Kalni stands in the settlement of Kalni, in the Nīgrande civil parish, in the Saldus municipality. It is a modern Catholic church, built in the early 21st century.
Catholic services began to be held in this area in 2002, at first in the Lutheran church of Nīgrande, later in the community hall of Kalni, where a chapel dedicated to St Agatha was set up. In 2004 a plot was allocated to the community for a new church; built to the design of the architect Antra Siliņa, with the support of the German Catholic foundation "Bonifatiuswerk", the church was consecrated in 2009.
The church is built of red brick and fieldstone, and is notable for its modern expression. It serves the Catholic community of the Nīgrande civil parish.
