About the Church
The Church of St John the Baptist in Andzeļmuiża (Roman Catholic) stands in the village of Andzeļi, in the Krāslava municipality, Latgale. It belongs to the Diocese of Rēzekne–Aglona.
The first wooden church here was built in 1845 at the expense of a local landowner and the parishioners. It fell into disrepair and was demolished in the 1960s, and during the Soviet period the parish ceased to exist. After Latvia regained its independence, the community was revived through the efforts of Deacon Jānis Stepiņš, and the new church was set up in a former House of Culture building; it was consecrated by Archbishop (later Cardinal) Jānis Pujats.
The parish is responsible for several local cemeteries.
