About the Church
The Church of the Holy Family in Augškalne (Roman Catholic) stands in the settlement of Augškalne, in the Ambeļi civil parish, the Augšdaugava municipality, Latgale. It belongs to the Diocese of Rēzekne–Aglona.
The parish of Augškalne was established after the First World War; the first wooden church was built in 1926–1928 and consecrated in December 1928. In the summer of 1944 the church was destroyed, and in 1946–1947, on the initiative of Fr Jānis Strods, a new wooden church was built with donations from the parishioners; it was consecrated in 1947.
It is a three-aisled, log-built church clad in boards, with a tower, about 24.7 metres long; it holds about 80 people. The building was later faced in light-coloured brick.
