About the Church
The Roman Catholic Church of Aloja is the place of prayer of a small Catholic community in the small town of Aloja, in northern Vidzeme, near the border with Estonia. The community belongs to the Archdiocese of Riga.
The Vidzeme region is historically Lutheran, so Catholics here form a minority of the faithful, and the local parishes are usually small. Nevertheless, the Catholics of Aloja gather for communal prayer and Sunday Mass, keeping alive the tradition of the faith in their land.
