About the Church
The Church of the Divine Mercy in Saulkrasti (Saulkrastu Dieva Žēlsirdības Romas katoļu baznīca) is a Roman Catholic church in the resort town of Saulkrasti on the Gulf of Riga, north of Riga.
The parish was officially registered in 1996, construction of the church began in 1997, and on 19 April 1998, on the Sunday of Divine Mercy, the church was consecrated. Built to a design by the architect Jānis Šrėderis, the building consists of a nave 24 metres long and a tower about 16 metres high, and the church holds about 300 worshippers.
The image of Christ on the high altar was created based on the vision of St Faustina, and the walls of the church are decorated with paintings of the Way of the Cross. The church is an important place of spiritual life for local residents and holidaymakers.
