About the Church
The Catholic community of Narva formed in the second half of the 19th century, when about a thousand workers arrived from Łódź to work at the Kreenholm manufactory. In 1903–1907, to a design by the Kreenholm architect Paul Alisch, the neo-Gothic red-brick Church of St Anthony was built, and it was consecrated on 11 November 1907; funds for the construction were provided by the manufactory's director, Julius Andt.
During the Second World War the church suffered heavily from shelling, and regular services continued until 1944, before its walls were demolished on the initiative of the Soviet authorities.
The parish was re-established in November 1993. Today services are held in the building at Vabaduse Street 16, on whose second floor a church hall has been fitted out — the chapel was consecrated in 1998. The Parish of St Anthony also serves the faithful of Sillamäe.
