About the Church
The Church of the Sacred Heart of Jesus in Gadūnavas is Gothic Revival in style, built of brick masonry in 1901 through the efforts of Father Baltramiejus Baltrėnas. It stands in the town of Gadūnavas, 9 km north of Telšiai. The church has 3 naves and 3 oak altars. Around 1765, a chapel was built in the village of Degeniai, and in 1783 Jurgis Gadonas built a church next to the village and began calling the area Gadūnavas. As early as 1870, the parish priest Vismontas planned to build a new church and allocated 7,000 roubles. The churchyard fence is masonry, openwork, with arched gates.
