About the Church
The Church of St Joseph in Plutiškės stands in the village of Plutiškės, about 7.5 kilometres west of Šilavotas, in Kazlų Rūda district municipality. It is a wooden church of modest beauty in Suvalkija.
A chapel was built in Plutiškės in 1791, which in 1801 became a filial church of the Prienai parish. The present wooden church was built in 1839 by the priest Simonas Mackevičius, and in 1841 it was blessed by Bishop Povilas Strašinskis. After 1863 the administrator here was the priest Motiejus Brundza (1824–1870), who in 1859 prepared the primer "Lementorius".
The vernacular-style church resembles a traditional dwelling house: it is on a rectangular plan, wooden, with one tower and an apse. The churchyard is enclosed by a fence.
