About the Church
The Church of Divine Providence stands in Kapčiamiestis, Lazdijai district, near the border with Poland.
The beginnings of sacred life in the town go back to 1724, when Mikalojus Oginskis built a public chapel; a parish was established here at the end of the 18th century, and a parish school began operating in 1777. In the early 20th century, through the efforts of Father M. Guoga, services in Lithuanian were introduced, and in 1907 the “Žiburys” society established a library and reading room.
The previous church burned down on 22 June 1941, so the present wooden church was built in 1956 through the efforts of Dean Aleksandras Labanauskas and with the help of parishioners. The church, which has features of vernacular architecture, has a rectangular plan, one tower, a porch and an apse, and the churchyard is enclosed by a stone wall. Father Juozas Zdebskis, a defender of believers' rights, later worked here.

Medinė bažnyčia užfiksuota trijų ketvirčių ir apatiniu rakursais. Pastato fasadai apkalti stačiomis lentomis, sienose arkos formos langai. Bokštas – daugiabriaunis, su stoginiu karnizu, kupolu ir geležiniu kryžiumi.
