About the Church
The Church of St Thérèse of the Child Jesus in Paveisininkai stands in the village of Paveisininkai, on the eastern shore of Lake Veisiejis, about seven kilometres southwest of Veisiejai.
The modest wooden church was built in 1938 by Albinas Krūvelis, vicar of Kapčiamiestis, and was consecrated by Bishop Antanas Karosas. The towerless church, which resembles a dwelling house, has a rectangular plan with a tall gable roof; its interior is divided into three aisles by two pairs of columns, and the modest altars are adorned only with a mensa, a tabernacle, and a painting.
During the Soviet era the church was closed, and its liturgical furnishings were handed over to the Museum of Atheism; the house of prayer came back to life again in 1990. The parish of Paveisininkai was one of the smallest in all of Lithuania, and at the end of 2015 it was attached to the parish of Veisiejai.
