About the Church
The Kačerginė Chapel of St Anne stands in the centre of the resort town of Kačerginė, in a picturesque pine park by J. Janonio Street, on the left bank of the Nemunas, about 16 km west of Kaunas.
The wooden chapel with glass facades, blending harmoniously into its natural surroundings, was built in 1998 to a design originally prepared in 1936 by the architect Vytautas Landsbergis-Žemkalnis, adapted by the architects Feliksas Jackevičius and Gediminas Jurevičius. The church was consecrated on 26 December 1998 by the Bishop of Vilkaviškis, Juozas Žemaitis. Beside it stands a timber-framed bell tower about 12 metres high, and the interior is adorned with a rare stained-glass altar created by the artist Artūras Rinkevičius.
For a long time the chapel belonged to the parish of Zapyškis. On 13 December 2022 the Bishop of Vilkaviškis, Rimantas Norvila, established the independent parish of Kačerginė St Anne, which began operating on 26 December of the same year. The community celebrates its titular feast of St Anne on 26 July.
