About the Church
The Church of the Holy Cross at Patašinė stands in the village of Patašinė, in Marijampolė district municipality, about 3.5 km east of Marijampolė. Its history bears witness to the community's endurance in difficult times.
Already in the interwar period the Marian Fathers set up a chapel here, known to the people as the Chapel of the Holy Cross; it had an altar of the Heart of the Blessed Virgin Mary, a confessional and a small library. In 1949 the chapel was closed and abandoned, and a standard farm building was later put up on the site for the needs of a Soviet collective farm.
In 1990, through the community's efforts, the building was returned to the faithful and rebuilt with the parishioners' donations. On 23 May 1993 the renovated church was blessed; the ceremony was attended by Bishop Juozas Žemaitis and Monsignor Alfonsas Svarinskas. Today the church belongs to Marijampolė Deanery.
