Žemosios Panemunės Šv. Vincento Pauliečio bažnyčia

The Church of St Vincent de Paul at Žemoji Panemunė stands in the scenic valley of the Nemunas, in Šakiai district, Šakiai Deanery. The forerunner of this church — a wooden chapel — was raised here as early as 1732; it was built low by the Nemunas by the princess Sapiega. However, the river's floods were a constant threat, and in 1829 the flooded Nemunas devastated the chapel. For a time services were held in temporary places of prayer — at Paluobiai (1829) and at Patašiai (1856).

The present masonry church was built in 1877 on land donated by the manor, in a now safer spot. It is a Romanesque Revival church of plastered masonry: of rectangular plan, with a single tower, a narrow apse and low sacristies. The interior is divided into three aisles, separated by columns. A wooden fence with masonry piers encloses the churchyard, and in its corner the surviving chapel still stands; behind the church lies a working cemetery.
