About the Church
The Holy Spirit chapel in Grigiškės is one of the youngest and most modern Catholic churches in the Archdiocese of Vilnius. It is located in Grigiškės, in the western part of the city of Vilnius, near the A1 motorway linking Vilnius with Kaunas and Klaipėda.
The Holy Spirit parish of Grigiškės was established in 1992. Although the building was originally planned as parish premises, a lack of funds made it impossible to build a separate church. A temporary chapel was therefore set up in the parish house. In 1995 the new chapel was blessed by Cardinal Audrys Bačkis, and the first parish priest was Father Edvardas Minkevičius, who was also the project's builder.
Architects Felicija Vilimienė and Danutė Juškienė designed a modern building, one of whose distinctive features is a striking stained-glass window. The chapel receives worshippers daily and holds services in Lithuanian and Polish, reflecting the multinational community.
Next to the chapel there is also a parish house, which contains a library, a funeral hall and the convent of the Eucharistine Sisters. The Eucharistine Sisters (SJE) contribute through their work to the community's spiritual life and the provision of social assistance.
In 2020 the new Holy Spirit church was consecrated in Grigiškės, formally taking over from the chapel as the centre for prayer and parish activity. This marks an important stage in the parish's history, as its spiritual growth and development continue.
