About the Church
The Church of St Stanislaus Kostka at Dviete is in the centre of the village of Dviete, in Augšdaugava Municipality, in the region of Selonia. The church belongs to the Diocese of Jelgava and is a state-protected architectural monument.
The first wooden place of prayer at Dviete had existed since the 18th century, and the present masonry church was built in 1864 at the expense of the parishioners and the manor's owner. During the First World War the church suffered severe damage — its towers were blown up and its walls wrecked — but it was rebuilt between the wars according to the surviving drawings.
The church has a single-nave, cross-plan interior with three altars and an ornate Baroque interior. It remains a living house of prayer and gathering for the parish of Dviete, where services are held daily.
