About the Church
The Roman Catholic Church of Christ the King in Kalnciems stands in the centre of the town of Kalnciems, in Jelgava municipality, by the Lielupe river.
The church's foundation stone was blessed and construction began in 1995; on 26 July 1998 the Bishop of Jelgava, Antonas Justas, consecrated the shrine in honour of Christ the King. It was one of the first newly built churches in the restored Diocese of Jelgava.
The church is built of red brick, of traditional form, with a single tower; its area is about 300 square metres. The small local Catholic community here especially celebrates the feasts of Christ the King, the Nativity of St John the Baptist, and the Exaltation of the Holy Cross.
