About the Church
The Church of St Elizabeth in Augustova (Roman Catholic) stands in the locality of Kapūne, in the Lazdukalns civil parish, the Balvi municipality, Latgale. It belongs to the Diocese of Rēzekne–Aglona.
The church grew out of a chapel of the Bērži parish; permission to hold services there was granted in 1828. After the First World War it became the church of an independent parish.
It is a single-nave wooden church clad in boards, about 12 metres long. Beside it stands one of the largest outdoor crosses in Latvia — an oak cross roughly 4 metres high with a carved figure of the crucified Christ.
