About the Church
The Church of St Anne at Bērži (Bērzpils) stands in the settlement of Bērži, in the Bērzpils civil parish, in the Balvi district, in the Latgale region. It belongs to the Diocese of Rēzekne–Aglona.
The first wooden church was built in 1755 at the expense of the Benislavskis family; it burned down in the mid-19th century. The present masonry church was built in 1851, and in the same year Bishop F. Albinas Simonas consecrated it in honour of St Anne.
It is a massive two-towered stone masonry church, about 22 metres long, seating around 200 people. It has four altars, among them a main marble altar with four pilasters, and one of the oldest organs in Latvia built on the so-called kegellade system. Members of the Benislavskis family are buried in the churchyard; the church is protected as a cultural monument.
