About the Church
The Roman Catholic Church of St John the Baptist in Krišjāņi stands in the village of Krišjāņi, in Balvi Municipality, Latgale. It belongs to the Diocese of Rēzekne–Aglona.
The parish was founded in 1933 by Archbishop Antonijs Springovičs. The church was fitted out in 1935–1939 in a former grain barn (granary) of Krišjāņi Manor and was blessed on Christmas Eve 1939; the first parish priest was Jēkabs Cindzulis.
The single-nave church is built of fieldstone, covered with a slate roof, and has wooden floors; it is about 20 metres long and 9 metres wide. In 1940 the architect P. Pavlovs drew up a plan to extend the church, but it was never carried out because of the Second World War.
