About the Church
The Church of the Holy Trinity in Balbinova (Roman Catholic) stands in the settlement of Indra (formerly Balbinova), the Krāslava municipality, Latgale, near the border between Latvia and Belarus. It belongs to the Diocese of Rēzekne–Aglona.
The first wooden chapel in Indra was built in 1803; an independent parish was established in 1922, when it was separated from the Piedruja parish. The present masonry church was built in 1935–1940 through the efforts of Fr Antons Lopatjonoks, and it was consecrated in 1940 by Bishop Jāzeps Rancāns.
It is a brick church with a sheet-metal roof, about 33 metres long and 18 metres wide. The interior preserves a painting from the end of the 18th century, “The Coronation of the Mother of God.”
