About the Church
The Church of the Transfiguration of Christ at Brodaiži stands in the village of Brodaiži, in the Pilda civil parish, in the Ludza district, in the Latgale region. It belongs to the Diocese of Rēzekne–Aglona.
The parish's beginnings go back to the late 17th century, when the Dominicans of Pasiene built one of twelve wooden chapels; it stood until 1813. The present masonry church was built in 1813 at the expense of Kazimieras Kibortas, and the dean of Ludza, A. Latkovskis, consecrated it.
It is a single-aisled fieldstone masonry church, about 21 metres long. Inside are two altars: on the high altar a painting of the Mother of God, above it in the vault a depiction of the Transfiguration of Christ, and on the side altar an image of St Anne.
