About the Church
The Church of the Sacred Heart of Jesus at Daugavpils stands in the Old Forštate district (Vecā Forštate), on Baložu Street, in the city of Daugavpils. It belongs to the Diocese of Rēzekne–Aglona.
The church was built and consecrated on 1 October 2006; it was designed by the architect Alfrēds Kokins. Construction was supported by German Christians, the Daugavpils city council, the diocesan communities and the government of Latvia. Since 2009 the parish has been served by the Marian Fathers.
It is a brick masonry church, ranked among the largest Catholic communities in the city, serving about four thousand faithful. The church has become an important centre of Catholic spiritual life in the Old Forštate district.
