About the Church
The Roman Catholic Church of the Sacred Heart of Jesus in Līksna stands in the settlement of Līksna, in Augšdaugava Municipality, Latgale, near the Daugava. It belongs to the Diocese of Rēzekne–Aglona.
The first chapel here was built in 1748, and in 1798, with the support of the Counts Pliateris-Zībergs, the first church rose, consecrated in 1819. The present church was built in 1909–1913 by the future Archbishop of Riga, Antonijs Springovičs; once construction was finished the old church was demolished and its materials used for a two-storey presbytery.
The Gothic Revival red-brick church is 30 metres long and 17 metres wide. Inside are three oak Gothic altars, a chapel dedicated to Our Lady of Lourdes, and three bells, the largest of which weighs 609 kilograms.
