About the Church
The Church of the Blessed Virgin Mary at Dukstigals stands in the village of Čornaja, in the Čornaja civil parish, in the Rēzekne district, in the Latgale region. It belongs to the Diocese of Rēzekne–Aglona.
The earlier church burned down on 26 July 1944. The present wooden church was built in 1947, through the efforts of the parish priest Liudvikas Krumpāns, on the foundations of the burnt church; the construction used timber from a large house that parishioners had bought with donations and dismantled.
It is a modest wooden building, about 15 metres long. On the high altar is a painting of the Blessed Virgin Mary, and the church also holds a sculpture of Mary. The church is included in the list of state-protected cultural monuments.
